Columbus Georgia Metro Black Nurses Association
A Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association Inc.
Chapter Overview
The Columbus Georgia Metro Black Nurses Association was established in 1982 by President Lorendis Morgan and Autherene S. Lee and the association (CGMBNA) has been active in the Tri-City community composed of Columbus, GA, Fort Moore, and Phenix City, AL. In 1985 the chapter began to recognize the contributions of minority nurses and the need to ensure a steady stream of minority nurses into the profession and established their annual `Xcellence in Nursing Awards and Scholarship event where they recognize a registered and licensed practical nurse for their excellence in nursing. Scholarships are also awarded to student nurses and a community champion is recognized. In 2007, CGMBNA initiated its first annual Red Dress Ball in celebration of women’s heart health. CGMBNA members serve on many local boards and leadership teams to address health care and other socioeconomic issues within minority populations. CGMBNA participates in various community forums to include health fairs and educational events and if often called upon by community leaders for the insight and expertise in healthcare delivery. CGMBNA adheres to the mission of NBNA and works within the Tri-City community to advocate for health equity, educate the community, promote economic development, and ensure a steady stream of students into the nursing profession.
